FREQUENTLY ASKED
Questions we hear often
What patients ask us before a first visit.
01Do you take my insurance?
We work with dental plans in three ways. We are in network with some PPO plans and out of network with others, and we file the claim for you either way. Dental HMO, Medicare Advantage and Medicaid plans each work differently, so call us and we will tell you plainly. Before your first visit our front desk checks your plan's benefits. The details are on our How fees work page.
02What if I do not have insurance?
You pay the fee for your visit, and we give you a written estimate in advance, before any treatment starts. Financing is offered by third-party lenders. Approval and terms are set by the lender.
03Do you accept Medicaid or CHIP?
We do not take Medicaid or CHIP at this practice. Call us and we will help you find a practice that does.
04Will it hurt?
We numb the area before we begin, tell you what to expect and stop whenever you raise a hand. Tell us what has bothered you before and we will plan around it. People feel things differently, so we do not promise a visit without any discomfort.
05How often do I need X-rays and a cleaning?
Your dentist decides, based on your teeth, your gums and your history. Many patients come every six months, some more often and some less. We explain the reason for whichever schedule we suggest.
06What is a deep cleaning?
A deep cleaning, called scaling and root planing, cleans below the gumline when your dentist finds gum disease. It is done with numbing, sometimes over more than one visit, and we explain why you need it before we start.
07Do you see children, and from what age?
Yes. Our general dentists see children, and we suggest a first visit around a child's first birthday or when the first tooth comes in. For some needs we refer to a pediatric dentist.
08What counts as a dental emergency, and what do I do first?
Trouble breathing or swallowing, swelling that spreads to your face or neck, or bleeding that will not stop needs emergency care: call 911 or go to an emergency room. For a knocked-out or broken tooth, or a toothache that can't wait, call our office right away.
09Do you offer sedation, and who gives it?
We use local numbing and do not offer sedation at this practice. If you need more than numbing, we refer you to a dentist who holds a sedation permit and tell you what to expect.
10Can I get a written estimate before treatment?
Yes. After your exam your dentist lists the treatment, the visits it will take and what it will cost. You can take it home before you decide.
11Do you speak Spanish?
Dr. Sepulveda speaks Spanish with patients. Ask us when you book and we will schedule your visit with her.
12How do I cancel or change a visit?
Call us or send a message as early as you can, and we will find another time that works.
